Anja Harmeier has been Global Project Leader for Rare Diseases at F. Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd (Roche) since 2014. The group is responsible for the discovery and development of molecules for rare diseases with a strong focus in severe neurogenetic diseases, pediatric genetically-defined disorders and inherited metabolic and hematological disorders. Prior to that, Anja was a scientist at Roche working on targets for Schizophrenia, depression and diabetes mellitus.

Just recently Anja transitioned to the Roche Venture Fund as an Investment Manager, where she evaluates and manages innovative investment opportunities in life sciences.

Before joining Roche, Anja was heading her own spin-off company based on a patent derived during her PhD thesis.

Anja earned her PhD from the Free University of Berlin in Biochemistry studying the neurotoxicity of Amyloid beta and its prevention. In addition, Anja got her MBA with a focus on healthcare management from Instituto Empresa in Madrid, Spain.

Anja has been the recipient of funding in form of a Roche Postdoc Fellowship for her research work, by the Deutsche Forschungs Gemeinschaft, and by Bayer Schering AG and she was awarded for her outstanding PhD thesis.
